Welcome to Doug Butler

Are you looking for a rewarding career that encompasses:

• Working with horses
• Working with tools
• Craftsmanship
• Travel opportunities
• Business ownership
• Control of your destiny
• Strong earning potential

Consider being part of a long, rich and respected vocation: that of a Farrier. Horseshoeing dates back hundreds of years but is still in demand today not only in the US but around the world. In the US alone, over four and a half million people are active in the horse industry, with an economic impact in the billions.

It takes more than watching a video or reading about horseshoeing to be a successful, professional farrier. The training at Butler Professional Farrier School, LLC is backed by 65 combined years of practical knowledge that transcends any classroom experience. Learn from the authors of the book, The Principles of Horseshoeing (P3), who are committed to your success in becoming a successful, confident and skilled professional farrier.

BPFS offers one-on-one instruction time, small classes, hands-on practice, live horses, business strategies and daily problem-solving opportunities. Courses are available for basic, advanced and graduate levels. Get your free eBook here.

From trimming and shoeing to horse anatomy, you’ll learn all aspects of the farrier business straight from the Butler Team, including internationally known farrier and teacher Doug Butler, with more than 45 years of teaching experience. Doug is an author, speaker and subject matter expert with a PhD in veterinary anatomy and equine nutrition from Cornell University.

Butler Professional Farrier School - Training For All Levels

Six Week Course with One-on-One Instruction

Our motto is “Learn it right the first time.” While many horseshoeing schools offer shorter courses, our combined teaching experience has shown that six weeks is the minimum amount of time for the serious student to learn – and become confident and competent – in practicing the basics of the farrier craft. With more one-on-one instruction and hands-on practice time, you’ll learn it right the first time.
Advanced training is available and necessary to work on specialized and diseased horses.

The Best Facilities

Built in 2002, all areas are under one roof: classrooms, individual learning stations, office, dormitory and a large arena for observing movement. Students have access to individual forging stations to practice shaping and fitting shoes to live horses’ feet. Butler Professional Farrier School has the largest collection of horseshoes, pictures, teaching aides, and foot models in America.
