I would like to thank you for your presentation at the December meeting. We enjoyed the chance to meet and talk with you before the presentation and I think I can speak for everyone in saying that we enjoyed your presentation of the Cowboy Code.
Personally, I think I needed to hear that message that night, particularly the part about overcoming obstacles. I have severe osteoarthritis in both knees which makes mounting and dismounting a horse very difficult. Your message gave me a good dose of perspective. I am sure I am not the only one in the audience who heard some needed encouragement. — Bonnie Templeton
The Programming Committee of the Larimer County Horseman’s Association arranged for Doug Butler to be the featured speaker for our December meeting. The December meeting is always a special meeting and we try to arrange a special program for that night. It is a dinner meeting, followed by the program. We have been engaged inan ongoing membership recruitment campaign to enlarge the size of the group. We publicized to the members that Doug would be the featured speaker. We were very pleased with the results. Attendance that evening doubled the year before.
Doug and Marsha were present for the dinner and several of us were able to meet them and get to know them before the presentation. We very much enjoyed the opportunity to converse with them on a personal level. Both Doug and Marsha were friendly and engaging.
Then Doug began his presentation, “Riding the Trail with the Cowboy Code.” The message is based on the homespun philosophy and experiences of the “Cowboy Code” and how it relates to modern life and families. Doug shares stories from the lives of the heroes of the west and from his own family. It is a message of encouragement for overcoming obstacles and building relationships. Some of the stories are humorous, some are poignant. He punctuates the points with songs and demonstrations. He keeps the presentation focused and moving. I thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and I heard many affirmative comments from the other members. We feel that Doug’s presentation was very successful and made our special Christmas meeting one to remember. We thank him for giving up a Saturday night in December to make our event memorable. — Larimer County Horseman’s Association
Thank you so much for speaking at our 2000 National Collegiate 4-H Conference in February. The conference was a success and many people expressed their enjoyment of your presentation. It gave delegates from across the nation a taste of Colorado’s history mixed with stories that taught us all important life lessons. Your wisdom and advice added so much meaning to our conference; I think everyone present walked away with a more positive outlook on life.
We realize you put an incredible amount of time and effort into this presentation and truly appreciate your willingness to contribute to the 4-H program. Your support of the program made a difference in each of our lives. –– Ruth Shephardson, National Collegiate 4-H Conference
This keynote program brings wisdom for today’s living from a folklore hero, “the American Cowboy.”
Doug Butler’s program brings his audience back to the values that have made America great through his old-fashion folk wisdom. His presentation utilizing rope tricks throughout his program keeps his audience entertained.
It is a must-see program for today’s parents and families. Parents were nodding their heads “yes” at the message Doug’s program was conveying throughout his program. — Bill Sommes, Washington Back Country Horsemen
In his talk, Doug recommends that people go back to old-time values Gene Autry and other cowboys like Roy Rogers and the Lone Ranger taught in their programs when “right was right, and wrong was wrong”! Doug has a unique way of bringing this special message up to date for the 21st Century to help people “forge firm foundations” with their families and other people they are mentoring in life.
It’s so different. It’s refreshing! — Gwen Crawford, CSA Chair Person
Thank you so very much for your “Cowboy Code” presentation on August 3, 2000, during our Pioneer Frontier Week. It fit in so perfectly with our theme and the campers enjoyed it very much as could be seen by their rapt attention as Doug sang, told stories, and did some trick roping. Not only the campers but the parents and staff were captivated by this outstanding performance.
The program was very entertaining but even more important to us were the moral lessons instilled in the audience. It is a rarity to find someone who not only gets the attention of the campers but can teach along with it character – something we seem to be so lacking in our society today. With our country founded on so many biblical principles and the heroes demonstrating outstanding character qualities, it is refreshing to have a program with this heritage emphasized. You did this so well as you related actual history while telling about the legendary heroes of the Wild West.
Anyway, hats off to you for giving us a great program enjoyed by all with a message worth hearing. Thanks for being a highlight to our summer. We would like to have your program again next summer.
Many thanks for a terrific show with lasting value. — Bob and Mary Rotz, Owners of Antietam Recreation
